Water Feature in Snead
Friday was another cloudy and rainy day although the forecast called for the rain to hold off until around lunch, so Mrs. Allen and Courtney wanted to get some work done before the rain came down. When Rocco and I got to the shop, we talked with Coach Johnson, Patrick, and Jeff before we met up with Mrs. Allen and Courtney. Mrs. Allen wanted to try install the water feature that she had been talking about since our first day into the Snead Garden, so we loaded up the three main parts of the feature and some flowers for the Snead Garden. When we arrived at Snead, we unloaded the feature and put the base down in the flower bed that is in front of the windows of the archives room. We quickly realized that the base of the feature wasn't level, so Mrs. Allen sent us back to the shop to find a level, shims, fresh dirt and the water pump for the feature. The guys in shop gave us a level, but we couldn't get any shims, so we headed back over to the Snead Garden. Using the level, we figured out that the base of the feature was obviously not level, so Mrs. Allen sent us to the maintenance office in hopes of finding some shims. No one was in the office, so we returned to Snead and planted a little before break.
After break, we picked up some shims from the maintenance office and headed back to Snead. We leveled out the base using the shims, and we put the other two pieces on the base. We quickly realized that both of these pieces were very unstable and the shims in all likelihood weren't going to do the job, so Mrs. Allen radioed for either Mr. Clements or Coach Johnson to come over and check it out. We planted some around the feature until Coach Johnson got there. He quickly figured out that the fountain wasn't going to work as is. The bottom of the second piece was very uneven and shims weren't going to be able to keep from holding it up especially when it was filled with water and with the possibility of people and animals touching it. He recommended that we take it down out of the garden and call the retailer and tell them what our situation was because it wasn't worth filling it up just to have it fall over and break itself and the windows.
We took the fountain down, and we finished planting the rest of the flowers for the Snead Garden. The rain had held off all day allowing us to finish getting all of the flowers into Snead. After cleaning up and washing the area down with the hose, we planted one last bush at the Blundins' house to pretty much finish up everything over there and headed to lunch.
