Bleachers and Bagpipes

This Thursday, we started the day working at the front gardens of The Residence.  Rocco and I spread mulch in the front gardens by hand because of how many delicate flowers we had packed into the beds while Mrs. Allen and Camryn planted in a smaller bed on the side.  While we were working on doing that, the bleachers for graduation were being put up by the crews.  The bleachers where the students sit were already assembled and the far side bleachers were being put up.  While we worked side by side, I heard the bagpipes practicing in the distance.

We were working in silence by ourselves for the most part, so I got some time to think about those two things: the bagpipes and bleachers.  My mind wandered back to the first Oracle I saw my freshman year, back when it was still a physical newspaper.  I remember the editor wrote an article about the New Boy class (Class of 2017), and the last sentence was something along the lines of, "Do your best here, and makes the most of it because before you know it those bagpipes will be playing for you."  I realized those bagpipes I heard were playing for my classmates and me, and those bleachers were being set up for our graduation.  I didn't ---and still don't -- know what to make of that.

We worked on the mulch and the planting until break, and we took our break as usual listening to the guys go back and forth in the shop about everything but work.  After break, Rocco and I headed back to The Residence to blow the  mulch off the path, wash the steps and the path, and water the plants in the back.  After knocking those jobs out, we met Mrs. Allen by the Walker Building where we pulled weeds and pulled up grass that had been accidentally planted in the beds.  When Mrs. Allen came back from the shop, we talked to her about planting down at the Barbee Center, so we met her down there after running by the chapel to pick up the plants.  We planted down in the pots at the Barbee, and then Mrs. Allen told us to go fertilize at Houyoux's house and the guardhouse.  We headed over there, hooked up the hoses, and finished the house and one side of the guardhouse before heading back up the hill for lunch.  On the way up the hill, we stopped by some of the sites we had been working at to take pictures for our final presentation as well.
