Good Weather
After getting out of Bible class, I met the gang outside Kenan Hall. There, we learned a new trick. Around all the shrubs
was a layer of mulch that had been laid earlier in the year. Yet the mulch was
packed down and settled. Mrs. Allen taught us that it's not necessary to lay
down more mulch on what’s already there. Instead we took hardheaded rakes and
roughed up the preexisting mulch. After about forty-five minutes of teasing the
ground, it looked as though we had just laid brand new load of mulch. This
mulch helps keeps the weeds under control, yet there were still a couple weeds
around to be plucked.
We then packed up and headed to the raised flowerbeds next to the
Fir Tree patio. There, we took everything out. The annuals were ripped out to
later be put in the compost and the bulbs were dug up and saved. I can say with
honesty, Thomas and I have become much better (but not perfect) at keeping the
area clean as we are removing annuals.
